The History Of Honda And Some Of Its Most Iconic Models

Honda is today recognized for its extensive lineup. We’ll show you how the newest designs have been influenced by the past and still have Honda’s core values.

The History of Honda’s Founders

Established in 1948 by co-founders Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa in Japan, Honda Motor Company Ltd. began by manufacturing motorcycles. The company introduced its first model, the D-Type, in 1949 and became the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles by 1964. Over the next few decades, Honda expanded its product line and operations to manufacture automobiles in countries around the world.

Soichiro Honda was inspired by his philosophy of the power of dreams. It helped him and his company tackle intelligent problems from a creative perspective that enhanced mobility and increased joy in people’s lives.

The History of the Honda Accord and Accord Coupe Models

The first generation of the Honda Accord began in 1976, with the introduction of the Accord two-door hatchback. Powered by a 68hp 1.6L engine, the fuel efficiency of the Accord was its greatest selling feature.

As the years passed, so did the design of the Honda Accord and Honda Accord Coupe evolve from a boxier style with a larger engine and fuel injection. While the coupe has been discontinued since 2017, today the sedan has aggressive styling in touring trim with up to 268hp.

Today’s Honda Accord has been designed with the newest technology and safety features. It’s available from the base LX trim level all the way up to the Touring trim levels.

The Honda Odyssey History

Introduced in 1995, the Honda Odyssey minivan was extremely popular with families. Four-wheel disc brakes, dual airbags, with accommodations for up to seven passengers, the Honda Odyssey was a great ride for drivers, passengers, friends and pets.

In the early 2000s, the Honda Odyssey underwent a major style change. Increased length, a smaller engine, extra storage space, and an exotic navigation system gave the Odyssey an edge over its competition.

Today’s 2019 Honda Odyssey is engineered for the modern family. A 3.5L V6 engine with 280hp gets reasonable mileage in the city and on the highway. With a wide variety of trims available, drivers can customize their Odyssey to meet their family’s specific needs.

The Honda Civic Si History

Debuting in 1985, the Honda Civic CRX Si brought performance, passion, and enthusiasm for drivers. Since its launch, the sports injection (Si) models have continued to combine real-world usability with exclusive performance features, giving a more connected feel to drivers.

Today’s Civic Si features include:

  • A 1.5 L, inline-four engine with 12-valve crossflow head
  • An aerodynamic body style with double-wishbone style suspension
  • Larger diameter exhaust system than in other Civics
  • Firmer springs, a front strut-tower brace, and low-profile 15” tires
  • Race-inspired front and rear fascia, rear spoiler and diffuser

The Honda Civic Si remains a car of choice for driving enthusiasts.
